Active hydraulic shock absorbers are advanced automotive suspension components that dynamically optimize suspension performance by adjusting damping force in real time.


Automotive suspension encompasses the assembly of force-transmitting components connecting the vehicle body (or frame) to the wheels; it consists of elastic elements, shock absorbers, and guiding mechanisms. Its core functions include transmitting forces and moments to facilitate power delivery and cushioning road impacts, thereby ensuring driving stability and enhancing ride comfort. Traditional shock absorbers are primarily hydraulic and remain the most widely used type in the current automotive market. However, driven by rising consumer expectations for the driving and riding experience-and the rapid evolution of suspension systems along the trajectory of "passive to semi-active to fully active"-shock absorber technology is shifting toward electronically controlled systems. Categories of electronically controlled shock absorbers include Continuous Damping Control (CDC), Magnetorheological Control (MRC), active hydraulic shock absorbers, and motor-driven active shock absorbers.

This unit typically comprises an electro-hydraulic pump (MPU), a suspension control accumulator, and a system of hydraulic lines and valve assemblies. By utilizing the built-in electro-hydraulic pump to adjust the pressure differential between the upper and lower chambers, the system actively controls the shock absorber's extension/compression and damping force. These units offer advantages such as rapid response, high precision, and the ability to actively counteract impacts, aligning with the development trends of automotive active suspension systems. However, due to their complex structure and high costs, active hydraulic shock absorbers are currently utilized primarily in luxury and high-end intelligent vehicle models.
