What is the rolling effect?

Leave a message

What is the rolling effect? How does it affect the performance of the product? How can it be eliminated.

Answer: ① In the semi-finished film after rolling, there may sometimes be a phenomenon of physical and mechanical performance differences in the longitudinal and transverse directions, that is, the tensile strength along the rolling direction is high, the elongation is low, and the shrinkage is high, while the tensile strength along the perpendicular rolling direction is low, the elongation is high, and the shrinkage is low. This phenomenon of performance differences in the longitudinal and transverse directions is called the rolling effect.

② Impact: From a processing perspective, the rolling effect can cause inconsistent longitudinal and transverse shrinkage of semi-finished products. From the perspective of products, there are different requirements for different products, which may cause difficulties in operation. Products such as rubber threads require high longitudinal strength, while products such as balloons require uniform strength distribution, resulting in unfavorable rolling effects

③ Solution: If it is caused by anisotropic fillers, the solution is to avoid using such fillers and instead choose isotropic fillers. Such as carbon black particles. If it is caused by the orientation of rubber molecular chains, increasing the rolling temperature, increasing the activity energy of molecular chains, and accelerating their movement can be used to solve the problem.
