A press release issued by the Malaysian Rubber Board (MRB) on December 13 said that the MSNR program "demonstrates Malaysia's commitment to meeting international sustainable development requirements and regulatory compliance." Under the MSNR regulatory program, licensees and permit holders of the Malaysian Rubber Board will receive sustainability recognition to ensure the sustainability of natural rubber, including alignment with the national agricultural product policy.
The MSNR will be implemented from January 1, 2025, based on five main principles: no deforestation, rubber planting regulated by the National Land Code, environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and traceability of the supply chain.
It is reported that in July this year, the Malaysian Rubber Board launched a comprehensive MSNR assessment program for smallholders and license holders through field surveys and information searches to collect information on the geographical location of rubber plantations. It has also developed a digital platform called MSNR Trace System to track the natural rubber supply chain to ensure transparency and accountability in rubber production.
