Standard Parts Bonanza Fades as Nut Industry Shifts to "High-Strength Locking + Smart Manufacturing & Export"

- 2026 Mid-Year Industry Review

In the first half of 2026, China's fastener sector presented a mixed picture of "slight revenue growth amid profit pressure": while cumulative revenue among 12 A-share listed companies edged up 2.3% year-on-year, the median net profit fell by 8.7%. Against this backdrop, generic carbon steel nuts remain trapped in a "race-to-the-bottom" pricing war, whereas specialty nuts for new energy, wind power, and rail transit have emerged as the primary growth drivers.

The traditional standard parts market continues to contract. Hit by the downturn in real estate, orders for construction-grade nuts dropped 9.2%, further squeezing the bargaining power of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In stark contrast, scenario-specific components are seeing both volume and price surge: a flame-retardant coated battery connection nut within the CATL supply chain is set to ship over 280 million units this year with a gross margin of 34.6%; Spiralock wedge-locking nuts are riding a 70% YoY increase in overseas offshore wind export orders; and Nanjing Junwei Precision's double-slot locking nuts have secured CRRC certification, successfully replacing imported alternatives.

Smart manufacturing is shifting from "vanity projects" to "cost necessities." In Yongnian, Hebei, enterprises connected to shared manufacturing platforms have boosted material yield by nearly 10% and cut per-ton costs by approximately RMB 200. Meanwhile, Dingxi-based firms have secured patents for "automatic locking nut processing devices," replacing manual handling with mechanical structures. Currently, leading players have achieved an 89% self-controlled heat treatment rate, effectively mitigating raw material volatility.

Export patterns are diverging regionally. Taiwan, China, saw fastener exports drop 11.15% YoY in the first five months as orders shifted to Mexico and Southeast Asia. While Mainland China's nut exports to Russia fell 9.4% in H1, May data showed a 19.9% MoM rebound, signaling a phased recovery. Concurrently, high-end Chinese nuts made a strong impression at Hannover Messe, maintaining a stable export price of $1,900/ton to Germany and steadily capturing market share in automotive and wind power sectors previously held by imports.

Looking ahead to 2027, the EU's proposed Carbon Footprint Regulation for Fasteners is expected to take effect, coinciding with the penetration rate of "smart nuts"-integrated with sensing capabilities-rising from 0.8% to 4.3%. Industry barriers are set to rise significantly. Experts agree that the nut industry is evolving from the production of simple "connectors" to the manufacture of "trusted components" that ensure system safety and data integrity. Only those enterprises that deeply integrate material science, digital technology, and green manufacturing will secure a competitive edge in the next cycle.
