Even if mechanical dimensions, hardness and colour fully match drawings, non‑compliant raw materials can make whole batches inadmissible for EU import. The 0.1 % threshold per homogeneous material still applies for most SVHC substances; once exceeded, suppliers are obligated to provide SDS documents and complete SCIP database notification for EU customers. Electronics and automotive OEMs now routinely ask grommet suppliers to supply up‑to‑date REACH test reports instead of accepting older certification documents.

 

Market feedback shows two frequent non‑conformity points for rubber grommets. First, phthalate‑based plasticizers mixed into general‑purpose rubber formulations. Second, PAH contaminants originating from inexpensive processing oil and carbon black for black grommet variants. These risks are often invisible from surface appearance, which explains why many purchasers face compliance surprises after placing mass orders.

 

As end‑users shift focus from pure price comparison toward stable compliance performance, material selection for rubber grommets is evolving. High‑grade EPDM and well‑formulated nitrile rubber without harmful phthalates are gaining preference for EU‑bound projects. Custom‑moulded grommets for outdoor solar cabinets and vehicle wiring harnesses require extra UV‑ageing testing alongside chemical compliance checks.
