Green Transformation Of Thermoset Plastics Accelerates, BMC Composites See Rising Demand For Electrical Sealing

Leave a message

At the recent composite moulding technology conference, industry specialists highlighted that thermoset materials, including BMC, SMC, epoxy, and silicone, stand out from thermoplastics with superior heat resistance, electrical insulation, dimensional stability, and flame retardancy. They remain the preferred material for power, energy storage, and EV electronic control sealing parts.

Tightening global electrical safety regulations shift buyers away from generic low-cost grades toward custom formulations. High-CTI anti-tracking BMC, low-shrink precision thermoset compounds and oil-resistant thermoset sealing grades are recording strong order growth. These materials are well suited for insulating bases, terminal blocks, sealing bushings, grommets, insulating washers and precision moulded components. They complement rubber and silicone seals widely used inside control boxes, battery packs and motor housings for insulation & sealing purposes.

The industry faces two main bottlenecks: conventional thermosets are hard to recycle after curing, raising environmental compliance pressure. Precision compression moulding also demands high-standard tooling, stable process control, and consistent batch quality. Leading raw material suppliers are developing recyclable thermoset resin and bio-based unsaturated polyester systems to balance performance and carbon reduction. Many rubber & plastic component manufacturers upgrade compression and injection lines to support combined production of BMC thermoset parts and rubber sealing products.

Asia-Pacific remains the largest consumption region for thermoset moulding compounds, powered by grid upgrades, energy storage and e-mobility. Sourcing teams favour suppliers capable of delivering both thermoset mouldings and rubber seals, as one-stop insulation & sealing packages gain stronger market traction. Forecasts indicate modified thermosets combining flame retardancy, thermal stability and sealing functions will gradually replace some conventional engineering plastics over the next two years, expanding adoption in high-voltage and energy storage sectors.
