According to recent industry data, the penetration rate of new energy vehicles in China has consistently exceeded expectations. This structural shift is significantly altering the demand landscape for the rubber industry. Traditional internal combustion engine vehicles require rubber parts primarily for engine seals and fuel systems. However, electric vehicles demand entirely different specifications.
The most critical shift is in battery pack sealing. EV battery packs require IP67 or even IP69K waterproof ratings, meaning the rubber seals must provide absolute protection against water, dust, and electrolyte corrosion. This has driven strong demand for high-performance materials such as liquid silicone rubber (LSR) and modified EPDM. Additionally, the absence of engine noise in EVs makes motor and road vibrations more noticeable, leading to an increased use of sophisticated rubber damping blocks and bushings to improve ride comfort.
Furthermore, the high-voltage wiring harnesses in EVs require thermal insulation and flame-retardant rubber sleeves to ensure safety. To meet these new demands, Chinese rubber manufacturers are accelerating their transition from producing low-value standard parts to high-value custom components, investing heavily in material R&D and precision molding technologies to secure their place in the global EV supply chain.
