In June 2026, with the technical support of the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the 100,000-ton/year rare earth styrene-butadiene rubber plant in Dushanzi Petrochemical successfully completed the trial run, and the entire production line achieved performance standards of superior grades, marking that China has fully achieved complete independent control of core technologies in the field of rare earth catalytic synthesis of rubber and successfully moved towards large-scale industrialization.
Technical advantages and industrial value:
Outperforming traditional products in performance: Compared to nickel-based butadiene rubber, rare earth butadiene rubber has significant advantages in core performance such as high wear resistance, high strength, resistance to fatigue, anti-tear property, low temperature resistance, low heat generation, and low rolling resistance. It is more suitable for high-end rubber molding products such as tires for new energy vehicles and heavy-duty engineering vehicles.
Upgrading of industrial chain security: This technology is the industrialization application of the original research results of China's 60-year experience in catalytic synthesis of rubber using rare earths. It has addressed the problem of relying on imports for high-end grades of rare earth styrene-butadiene rubber, providing an independently controllable high-performance raw material guarantee for the rubber molding industry. At the same time, it enhances the competitiveness of export trade and provides a price floor for the substitution of natural rubber.
Technical iteration milestone: The product launched this time is the second-generation industrialization technology of rare earth styrene-butadiene rubber. It has overcome key challenges such as precise control of catalyst structure, one-click automated production throughout the process, and 100% domestic equipment manufacturing. It enables the independent production of all M numbers of rare earth styrene-butadiene rubber, fully meeting the market demand for high-end products.
