Chinese and U.S. Heads of State Meet Again in Washington
On the afternoon of September 23 (local time), President Xi Jinping arrived in Washington by special plane for a state visit to the United States at the invitation of U.S. President Donald Trump. Upon their arrival at Joint Base Andrews, President Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were warmly welcomed by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, marking another meeting between the Chinese and U.S. heads of state in Washington.

Upon their arrival at Joint Base Andrews in Washington, President Xi and his wife, Mme. Peng Liyuan, were warmly welcomed by President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. President Trump expressed his pleasure at hosting President Xi and Mme. Peng in Washington, noting that this was a visit attracting worldwide attention. He described President Xi as a great leader and the occasion as a great moment, adding that he looked forward to exchanging views in depth with President Xi and advancing the development of relations between the two countries.
American children presented flowers to President Xi and Mme. Peng. Honor guards lined both sides of the red carpet to pay tribute; a military band played the national anthems of China and the United States; a 21-gun salute was fired; and fighter jets performed a flyover in salute.
As President Xi traveled by motorcade from the airport to his hotel, representatives of overseas Chinese communities and Chinese students gathered along the route, waving the national flags of both China and the United States to give President Xi a warm welcome.
