The Anatomy of a Cross-Slit Duckbill Valve

Unlike traditional check valves that rely on springs, flappers, or complex mechanical assemblies, our duckbill valve is a one-piece elastomeric component. The sealing function is integral to the part itself. The "duckbill" shape refers to the elastomeric lips that mimic the bill of a duck, while the "cross-slit" refers to the precision-cut or molded intersection at the tip of the valve.

The operational principle is elegantly simple yet mechanically robust. When positive fluid pressure exceeds the valve's cracking pressure, the cross-slit opens, allowing fluid to pass through with minimal flow resistance. The moment the pressure drops or reverses, the inherent elasticity of the food-grade silicone forces the cross-slit to collapse and seal shut. This self-contained sealing mechanism prevents leakage, drips, and backflow, even in inverted or horizontal mounting positions.

Every batch of silicone we process is traceable. We provide Certificates of Analysis (CoA) that verify compliance with FDA 21 CFR regulations for food contact surfaces. The material is inherently resistant to bacterial growth, non-toxic, and free from BPA, phthalates, and heavy metals. For clients requiring higher thermal stability or specific chemical resistance for aggressive formulations (such as high-acid sauces or alcohol-based sanitizers), we can formulate custom compounds that maintain FDA compliance while enhancing durability.

Manufacturing Precision and Quality Control

The performance of a cross-slit valve relies entirely on dimensional accuracy. A deviation of a fraction of a millimeter in the slit geometry can result in either excessive leakage or an unacceptably high opening pressure.

Our factory utilizes high-precision compression molding and Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) injection molding technologies. We maintain strict in-process quality control using Statistical Process Control (SPC) to monitor critical dimensions. Post-molding, every lot undergoes 100% visual inspection via Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) to detect flash, tears, or incomplete cures.
