BMC Contactor Insulation Barrier
The busbar insulator is formed through compression moulding of glass fibre-filled BMC thermoset material. Its core job is to hold copper or aluminium busbars firmly in place and maintain the required clearance between live phases. When short-circuit events happen, the component must resist the strong electromagnetic thrust that tries to displace busbars, without cracking or permanent deformation.
The base compound is formulated for high comparative tracking resistance. In cabinets that cycle between cold startup and continuous operating heat, with occasional condensation, the material absorbs minimal moisture. Dimensional drift is kept low after curing, so the original creepage and clearance geometry stays consistent across years of service. Threaded metal inserts are set during moulding rather than pressed in later; this avoids loosening when installers apply torque repeatedly during cabinet assembly or maintenance.
Design adjustments follow customer cabinet drawings. The spacing ribs, base outline and insert positions can be reworked to match specific panel layouts. Pre-production sample runs let customers carry out dielectric withstand and mechanical load tests in their own labs before full release.
