Material Formulation and Oil Resistance
The core advantage of NBR lies in its acrylonitrile (ACN) content. During compounding, we adjust the ACN ratio based on the specific fluid resistance required. Higher nitrile content directly correlates to superior resistance against petroleum-based oils, hydrocarbon fuels, hydraulic fluids, and silicone greases. This makes Nitrile membranes highly suitable for fuel transfer, lubrication systems, and general industrial oil handling.
However, as manufacturers, we are precise about the operational limits of this elastomer. Nitrile is not a universal chemical solution. It is not recommended for use with strong oxidizing acids, ketones, acetates, or chlorinated hydrocarbons. Furthermore, standard NBR compounds are susceptible to degradation when exposed to ozone, UV light, or weathering. Therefore, these membranes are engineered specifically for internal pump mechanisms or enclosed systems where direct sunlight and outdoor weathering are not factors.

Mechanical Properties and Structural Reinforcement
A diaphragm membrane must endure continuous flexing and pressure differentials without tearing. Nitrile naturally offers excellent tensile strength and high abrasion resistance, making it mechanically robust for pumping fluids that may contain mild particulates.
To enhance the fatigue life of the membrane, our manufacturing process incorporates structural reinforcement. During the molding phase, a nylon or polyester mesh fabric is embedded within the elastomer matrix. This fabric layer serves to distribute stress evenly across the flexing surface, preventing the propagation of micro-tears and significantly extending the service life of the diaphragm under repetitive pneumatic cycling.

Manufacturing Process and Quality Control
Our Nitrile diaphragms are produced using precision compression molding. Raw NBR compounds are mixed with vulcanization agents and reinforcing fillers, then cured under controlled heat and pressure. This curing process is critical; it establishes the cross-link density that dictates the membrane's compression set and elasticity.
Quality control in our facility involves strict dimensional checks to ensure the sealing lips and mounting holes meet exact tolerances. We also conduct batch testing for hardness (typically ranging from 50 to 80 Shore A) and specific gravity to verify compound consistency. For fluid compatibility, we perform standard immersion tests to measure volume change and tensile strength retention after prolonged exposure to target hydraulic oils and fuels.
Cost Efficiency and Application Scope
Nitrile is fundamentally an economical elastomer. Compared to high-performance fluoroelastomers (like Viton) or specialized low-temperature rubbers, NBR provides a highly cost-effective sealing solution for standard industrial environments. It is the standard choice for transferring crude oil, diesel, gasoline, water, and alcohols in environments where extreme temperatures are not a primary concern.
The typical continuous operating temperature range for our Nitrile membranes is between -30°C and +100°C. For applications requiring extended low-temperature flexibility, we can formulate low-ACN variants, though this may slightly reduce oil resistance.
