Custom Molded Rubber Connecting Transmission Gear

The core of manufacturing these gears lies in the material selection and the molding process. We utilize a variety of elastomers depending on the mechanical load and environmental factors. Standard applications typically utilize Nitrile (NBR) or Styrene Butadiene Rubber (SBR) for general wear resistance. For environments involving high temperatures, ozone exposure, or chemical contact, we formulate parts using EPDM, Silicone, or Fluoroelastomers (FKM). The molding process, typically injection molding or compression molding, ensures that the rubber is uniformly distributed around the internal metal inserts or hubs.

A critical manufacturing capability for connecting transmission gears is metal-to-rubber bonding. Many of these gears require a rigid metal core or insert to provide structural integrity and a secure mounting point. We employ specialized bonding agents and surface preparation techniques to create a permanent, vulcanized bond between the elastomer and the metal substrate. This prevents the rubber from de-bonding or spinning on the hub under high torque loads, which is a common failure point in inferior products.

The geometry of the gear teeth and the connecting body is engineered to manage torsional vibration and shock loads. The flexibility of the rubber acts as a mechanical fuse, protecting downstream components from sudden jolts and reducing noise generated by the drivetrain. During the tooling design phase, we analyze the required durometer (hardness) to ensure the gear has the appropriate balance of flexibility and structural rigidity. Softer compounds are used for maximum vibration isolation, while harder compounds are specified when precise torque transmission and minimal deflection are required.

Dimensional accuracy is strictly controlled throughout the production run. The internal bore, keyways, and external tooth profiles are machined or molded to exact specifications to ensure proper fitment with mating shafts and driven components. Post-molding finishing processes, such as deflashing and trimming, are performed to remove excess material from the parting lines, ensuring a clean interface that prevents premature wear or imbalance during high-speed rotation.

Quality assurance is integrated into our manufacturing workflow. We conduct routine inspections to verify Shore hardness, tensile strength, and bond integrity. For custom orders, we can perform specialized testing, such as torsional stiffness testing or compression set evaluation, to validate that the gear will perform reliably over its intended service life.
